You may have heard a few things in the news, a couple of conversations at the coffee shop, or understand there to be some investment opportunity your neighbor is looking into.
What is this all about?
The Province Government, through the Ontario Power Authority, introduced the the Green Energy Act. In essence this legislation proposes that 1- 2% of Ontario's total electrical need could be supplied from small renewable energy projects. Projects that you as a landowner could develop and be paid for..
Where could I "FIT" in?
These renewable energy projects can come from wind, solar, water or bio gas facilities. these projects fall into two categories. FIT and Micro FIT. Depending on how much energy your green project is capable of producing, you will fall into one of these two categories. The energy collected in measured in" Kilo watts per Hour" (Kwh) and this is the bases for determining your category. If your project is capable of generating over 10 Kwh, your have a "Fit" project. Conversely, if your project was rated for less than 10 Kwh, you will have a "MicroFit" Project. Simply put, large projects are FIT, smaller project are Micro FIT.
We know how you feel. It seems like too much. There are countless complicated terms, short forms, and organizations you have never heard of. How would you ever make sense of it all? All we can offer is that is is not that complicated. This is a simple process clouded in terminology.
To simplify...
If you were to complete an approved project to generate power, you could sell that energy to the Province. Okay, it's a little more complicated than that, but not much.
